I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

I watched Invictus at the weekend. Don’t bother. It’s rubbish.

one good thing about it though, was that it made me aware of a poem by William Ernest Henley. Apparently it had a big impact on Nelson Mandela during his time in Prison. Here it is…

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Time for a change.

I’ve had my blog up and running for a while now and it’s about time i improved both the design and content. So new year, new start and all that… I’ll be working to improve it every week.

Sorry that it looks a bit of a car crash at the moment but I’m learning as I go along so bare with me.

Expect more of a portfolio site and an understated, clean design.

Takes place on Saturday 19th March 2011.

In 2010 six men began a historic journey. They took place in the first ever Birkenshaw Boghopper Challenge…

The Boghopper is a gruelling 17 km mountain bike ride followed by a 5 km offroad run that takes place in and around Birkenshaw.

We organise it for charity (and for fun!), Last year we raised £260 for Sport relief. This year the aim is to get at least 20 0f us racing with a fundraising target of £400 for this year’s chairity, Age Concern (now part of Age UK).

Each participant pays a £10 entry contribution and we’ll hopefully be getting lots of other sponsors too.

This year’s bike section has been slightly revised. You can check out some pics of the new route on flickr

The Boghopper is open to anyone (with a bike), just get in touch and we’ll sort the rest out. If you would like to donate please visit our Just Giving page
